Address:
3900 block Cosgrove Drive
Madison, WI
Narrative:

A Madison resident was watching TV Monday morning when he heard a loud clap of thunder accompanied by a flash of lightning. Moments later, smoke started coming out of an electrical outlet inside the house.

Ladder Company 7 arrived to inspect the outlet and investigate whether fire could be festering inside the walls. Firefighters were directed to the living room, where the outlet was located, and they used a thermal imaging camera to determine the outlet was back to room temperature. After removing the cover to the outlet, they checked the walls and confirmed no fire spread. The wires from the outlet were capped, and each outlet in the home was also checked using the thermal imaging camera.

The homeowner was advised this particular outlet can’t be used again until it’s replaced.
