Narrative:

Firefighters were sent to the BP gas station on Mohawk Drive, just off Verona Road, for a vehicle fire threatening a building.

The driver stated he’d been driving along the Beltline and exiting onto Verona Road when smoke came up through the right side of his dashboard. He parked behind the BP and got out of his car to check under the hood. Just then, flames appeared from the dash area, and he heard his electric door locks activate.

As firefighters responded to the area, another driver operating a fuel delivery truck came up to the smoking vehicle and used a fire extinguisher to put out the flames.

Engine Company 9 overhauled the dashboard area and wet it down with a water extinguisher. The vehicle was towed, and the vehicle's owner – a rental company – was notified of the incident.
