Address:
400 block E. Village Green Ln.
Madison, WI
Narrative:

Ovens and stovetops that go without regular cleaning can easily build up greasy residue that poses a fire hazard to many households.

This was the case for a resident at the Village Green East apartments on Madison’s far northeast side. While warning up the burners on her electric stove, one occupant there said a fire ignited in the space between the burners and the oven, an area that firefighters determined to be dirty with grease. She quickly grabbed an extinguisher and put out the fire.

Engine Company 8 found little damage to the stove but the wall behind it suffered some discoloration. They confirmed there was no fire extension, and Ladder Company 8 assisted with ventilating the property. Property management took care of clean-up and made arrangements for repairs to the stove.
