Arrival:
Wednesday, November 23, 2016 - 7:11am
Address:
5400 block University Ave.
Madison, WI
Narrative:

An employee at a west side dry cleaning business reported to work this morning and found smoky conditions inside the story along with the smell of something burning. She called 911, prompting firefighters to respond to the 5400 block of University Ave.

There was no visible fire upon arrival, but during their investigation they did notice the smell of wood burning near the roof. Using a thermal imaging camera, Engine Company 4 ultimately detected a possible source of fire, with elevated temperatures found near one of the storefronts of the multi-unit business property.

Firefighters removed a sign from the storefront and pulled down the soffit to find arcing wires inside some wood-framed panels. Electricity to the building was shut down, and firefighters cooled the area, preventing fire from spreading to other portions of the building.

Damage estimates are not available, but damage was contained to the single storefront where the incident occurred. Nobody was injured.
