Address:
5100 block Maher Ave.
Madison, WI
Narrative:

As another round of storms passed through Madison early Wednesday morning, firefighters were called to a home on Maher Avenue for a power line down.

The power line was arcing as it rested against the 10-foot by 12-foot detached shed. With the help of the Dane County 911 Communications Center, firefighters notified MG&E that their help was needed to shut off the electricity powering that line.

Firefighters made contact with neighbors, telling them to remain inside and not touch any outside fences or structures.

Due to the live current going through the metal flashing on the shed, Engine Company 5 could not extinguish the smoldering that was occurring. MG&E's services were in high demand in other parts of the city at the time; firefighters waited more than an hour for the power to be turned off but kept a close eye on the smoldering shed to ensure fire didn't spread.

As soon as MG&E cut off power to the line, firefighters wet down the shed and overhauled it to put a stop to the smoldering. Engine 5 helped the homeowner remove their belongings from the shed, which suffered an estimated $2000.00 in damage.
