Incident Type:
Vehicle
Dispatch:
Monday, February 22, 2016 - 1:15pm
Address:
USH 12 Westbound at S. Park Street
Madison, WI
Narrative:

A semi driver was traveling along the westbound Beltline Monday when another semi driver contacted him over two-way radio alerting him that one of his trailer tires was on fire.

The driver of the burning semi pulled over near the Park Street exit as Ladder 6 responded to the scene from Fish Hatchery Road.

Prior to firefighters’ arrival, the fire was put out with a dry chemical fire extinguisher. The driver said the fire had been burning on the driver’s side rear axle area.

One of the brakes was still smoking when firefighters began checking for fire extension, but everything quickly cooled down.

The driver says he didn’t experience any problems with the brakes, and it’s unknown if any service work was recently done on them.

The Dane County Sheriff’s Office and Beltline truck remained with the driver and his semi until a service agent could change out the tire and complete other necessary repairs.
