Dispatch:
Wednesday, December 15, 2021 - 9:41pm
Arrival:
Wednesday, December 15, 2021 - 9:47pm
Address:
900 block Moorland Road
Madison, WI
Narrative:

Strong winds caused a large tree to fall, prompting power outages and other damage to the area of Moorland Road.

Ladder Co. 6 responded to the 900 block of Moorland Road where a transformer had blown, leaving people without power in a 3- to 4-block radius. MGE also arrived and requested Ladder 6 remain on scene to help with traffic control, especially as traffic lights in the area were also without power. Firefighters remained on scene till most of the damage tree was cleared and imminent hazards were addressed.

Meanwhile, Engine Co. 1 and Ladder Co. 1 were dispatched to the neighborhood to help two separate households that depended on home oxygen. One patient reported their oxygen concentrator was not working, but they were able to transition to a portable oxygen tank. Firefighters checked to ensure she had enough oxygen to last the estimated duration of the power outage, and that a flashlight and cell phone were left at her bedside in case she needed them. The second patient did not have a portable oxygen tank to use but did report they were breathing fine and did not require transport to the hospital or further medical evaluation.
