Narrative:

Ladder Company 6 responded to a report of a City plow truck on fire.

The driver said he was driving down the road when he heard a loud “bang” from the engine compartment. There was very light smoke showing from the engine compartment when firefighters arrived moments later.

The crew dismantled the latches, opened the hood, and found the serpentine belt on fire where it connects to the alternator. The belt was broken.

Other damage included a broken fan and fan pulley that led to damage on the backside of the radiator. This, in turn, also caused an antifreeze leak which the City Streets Division cleaned up.

Ladder 6 used their water extinguisher to put out the fire. They also removed the serpentine belt from the pulleys and put it on the ground to prevent re-ignition.

Fire damage was contained to the belt, but additional engine damage sustained was due to other factors.
