Arrival:
Thursday, January 25, 2018 - 6:30pm
Address:
2300 block Allied Drive
Madison, WI
Narrative:

An eight-unit apartment complex on Allied Drive was evacuated briefly while firefighters investigated the source of a smoky haze inside the building.

There were no outward signs of fire when Ladder Company 7 arrived. The crew did find smoke in one apartment and a strong smell of electrical burning. While Ladder 7 continued to look around inside, Engine Company 7 checked the roof and attic areas and Engine Company 4 examined the basement.

Upon further investigation, firefighters determined the source of the haze and odor was an overheated refrigerator motor. Crews ventilated the apartment, and the refrigerator was unplugged to shut down the motor. Building maintenance was advised to have the appliance looked at.
