Arrival:
Sunday, December 10, 2017 - 4:42pm
Address:
500 block Dapin Road
Madison, WI 53714
Narrative:

A north side resident was pre-heating the oven when, after about ten minutes, he could smell smoke in the kitchen. He returned ot the kitchen to find smoke coming from the top of the stove, then flames erupted on the stove top.

When pouring seasoned salt on the fire didn’t work, he pulled the stove away from the wall and out into the driveway, where he tossed snow on it and extinguished the fire. He was not injured.

Engine 10 and Medic 10 arrived along with a full structure fire response to the home, where the man was still outside with his oven. Firefighters entered the home and found light to moderate smoke conditions inside. As crews began ventilating, they also surveyed the kitchen, finding damage to some electrical components in the kitchen, significant smoke and heat damage to the range hood, and moderate smoke damage to walls and cabinets above the oven. The fire did not spread to other areas of the home.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The occupants have requested assistance from the American Red Cross.
