Narrative:

Engine 12 was called for a structure fire. A resident said it appeared her son had burned some papers under a car. He has been receiving treatment at the VA hospital. When E12 arrived, crews found an ash pile the size of a large dinner plate at the driver side rear of the car. E12 could not get a clear understanding of how the fire was put out. It appeared that the ashes had been swept from the front of the car, which was located inside a 2-car garage. Firefighters found a 34-year-old male standing at the rear of the garage with a disposable lighter in his hand. When E12 questioned the man as to what happened, he replied that he was trying to get rid of some papers. His car was backed into the garage and his trunk was in the open position. E12 noted numerous books, folders and papers in the trunk. No smell of gas or other accelerant was noted. No signs of ashes were noted on his sandals or pant legs. He denied any injury. The man was referred to the VA hospital for further treatment. Madison Police were also on scene.
