Arrival:
Monday, July 10, 2017 - 3:56am
Address:
S. Stoughton Road & Buckeye Road
Madison, WI 53716
Narrative:

Multiple passersby reported a large vehicle tipped over at the intersection of S. Stoughton Road and Buckeye Road with the driver trapped inside.

Engine 5 was first on scene, reporting a street sweeper-type vehicle resting on its side in the median. Paramedics made contact with the patient as firefighters assessed the vehicle’s stability.

After determining that the vehicle was solidly on its side, Engine 5 personnel used an axe to chop around the edge of the windshield and remove it. This allowed responders to enter the vehicle to turn it off, set the air brake, and assist the driver. The driver was able to get himself out of the vehicle through the front windshield after paramedics removed his seatbelt. He was taken into the care of Medic 5 and transported to a local hospital.

Meanwhile, Engine 5 ensured there were no other hazards remaining before turning the scene over to MPD, who awaited a tow truck to remove the tipped vehicle.
