Narrative:

One person has been taken to the hospital after being rescued from their vehicle at the Warner Park Boat Launch.

The Madison Fire Department was dispatched at 7:20 p.m. following reports that a car rolled into the water with at least one person trapped inside. When Engine Co. 10 arrived on scene, the car was approximately 20 yards beyond the dock and the crew could see one person in the back seat.

With the vehicle appearing to take on water at a rapid pace, Engine 10’s crew entered the water on foot and swam out to the car. The car was almost completely submerged as one firefighter reached in to grab the patient, who was unresponsive. Together with Engine 10’s lieutenant, the firefighter was able to pull the patient from the car and swim the patient back to the dock.

Madison Police helped Engine 10 get the patient on to the dock, and the crew immediately began CPR. Medic 3 arrived on scene shortly thereafter to provide advanced life support. Meanwhile, the MFD Lake Rescue Team arrived via boat to search the vehicle for additional occupants. The team performed a thorough underwater search of the vehicle and confirmed no other occupants were inside.

Lifesaving efforts continued en route to the hospital, and the patient did regain a pulse prior to arrival at the ER.

Schmidt's Towing responded to the scene to retrieve the vehicle from the water. Madison Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
