Dispatch:
Wednesday, December 2, 2015 - 10:39am
Arrival:
Wednesday, December 2, 2015 - 10:43am
Address:
400 block W. Washington Ave.
Madison, WI
Narrative:

One person was trapped in an elevator as the fire alarm sounded at 433 W. Washington Wednesday morning.

Building occupants had evacuated prior to Engine 1's arrival, and crews were directed to the elevator in question. The building manager couldn’t explain why the fire alarm was going off.

As two firefighters tended to the woman trapped in the elevator, others searched for an explanation for the activated alarm.

The woman was rescued from the elevator within moments and reported she was not injured. Engine 1 soon learned that the elevator maintenance room had a slight haze of smoke due to a malfunctioning motor, and that the smoke alarm was activated from that room.

Firefighters ventilated the area and reset the alarm system. They checked back one more time with the rescued woman, who confirmed she was doing well, and they turned the building back over to management to take care of any necessary repairs.
