Address:
1100 block E. Wilson Street
Madison, WI
Narrative:

Automatic fire sprinklers helped put a stop to a kitchen fire that erupted overnight in an east side apartment. The occupant reported to firefighters he was preparing food on the stovetop when a flare-up occurred. He grabbed a fire extinguisher and while using it, the building’s automatic sprinkler system kicked in.

Moments later, Engine Co. 3, Medic 3, and other east side and downtown fire crews arrived to find the fire already out with light smoke remaining and a pot of food on a hot stovetop burner. Ladder Co. 1 turned off the sprinkler system as Engine Co. 3 opened windows and worked to collect and drain the water from the activated sprinkler.

The fire displaced one occupant from the unit. Nobody was injured in the incident.
