Address:
S. Dickinson Street & Williamson Street
Madison, WI
Narrative:

The driver of an SUV was transported to a local hospital after crashing into a Williamson Street business, causing serious damage.

Engine Company 3, Medic 3, and the Madison Fire Department’s Heavy Urban Rescue Team were sent to Ha Long Bay restaurant on the corner of S. Dickinson and Williamson Street at 3:10 p.m. Approximately 20 people were inside the restaurant at the time of the crash but none were injured, and all were able to safely evacuate the building. The driver of the SUV was out of the vehicle by the time firefighters arrived, though the vehicle was still in drive. Firefighters were able to turn off the SUV and remove the keys.

Paramedics followed up on reports of a second person possibly injured. That person denied any injury or need for transport to the hospital.

With structural stability of the restaurant compromised, the MFD HURT began shoring up the corner of the building and removing loose brick. MGE cut power to a damaged pole in front of the building, and gas to the building was shut down.

City Engineering, Building Inspection, and the Health Department were all notified to respond.
