Incident Type:
Structure
Dispatch:
Saturday, September 15, 2018 - 2:42pm
Address:
900 N. Thompson Dr
Madison, WI 53704
Narrative:

A full structure fire was initiated to the 900 block of N. Thompson Drive, after neighbors noticed smoke coming from a garage and called 911. As firefighters approached the scene, a group of people were waving the crews towards address.
It was found an occupant was cooking with oil in the garage. Firefighters did not encounter an active fire but they observed the garage door, which was open while the occupant was cooking, had melted from the radiant heat of the LP gas grill. Debris from the melted garage door had dropped into the cooking oil and on the garage floor.

Fire crews ventilated the garage and the attic was checked for hazards. No extension of flames or fire damage were found beyond the cooking container.

The Lieutenant told the occupants to change their cooking practices and the dangers of not doing so were made clear.
