Arrival:
Sunday, October 8, 2017 - 4:46pm
Address:
200 block S. Broom Street
Madison, WI 53703
Narrative:

A full structure fire response was sent to an apartment on the 200 block of S. Broom Street after neighbors reported a smoke alarm that had been sounding for 30 minutes and smoke filling the common hallway.

Firefighters were led to the unit, which was familiar to downtown companies as being the site of a similar fire-related response in the recent past. Inside the apartment, Ladder Company 1 found the occupant asleep at the kitchen table as rice burned on the stovetop. The amount of charring on the food indicated the occupant had been asleep for a while.

The pan was placed in the stink, and firefighters ran water over it as they opened the windows to allow the apartment to ventilate. MPD assisted MFD in interviewing the occupant, and it was determined she could stay in her home.
