Arrival:
Sunday, August 28, 2016 - 7:53pm
Address:
Prairie Rose Road
Madison, WI
Narrative:

Occupants waited outside as firefighters approached a residence on Prairie Rose Road Sunday evening. Detectors sounded inside as smoke filled the main floor of the home.

Engine Company 13 was first on scene and entered the home to find a fire by the stove. Firefighters extinguished the flames with a portable water can and opened the windows to ventilate with the help of a fan set up by Ladder 8.

The homeowner says he left a cardboard box on the stove and believes he must have bumped a burner. The box burned, and a part of it fell on the floor. This started some cabinets on fire.

Two water cans were needed to fully extinguish the fire, which left some charring on the cabinets. There’s also smoke damage to the stove and a light above the stove.

The occupants, who were not displaced as a result of the fire and smoke damage, promptly began to clean the kitchen and contact their insurance agent.
