Incident Type:
Carbon Monoxide
Dispatch:
Friday, November 25, 2016 - 1:59pm
Address:
1600 block Kings Mill Way
Madison, WI
Narrative:

A man was assisting his nephew with carpet cleaning Friday when a neighbor called 911 for a strong smell of gasoline in the building.

Engine Company 3 found the front door ajar and went in with air monitors in hand. They detected high readings of carbon monoxide throughout the building, with the highest reading hitting 100 parts per million on the third floor.

Firefighters had the gas-powered carpet cleaner, which was running in the garage below, shut down. They began ventilating the third-floor unit and proceeded to neighboring units to check for additional carbon monoxide issues.

Occupants were told to open their windows as ventilation continued on each floor in the building until the air was cleared.

MGE was also on scene to assist. There were no illnesses or injuries.
