Madison Fire Department investigators have determined this fire was accidental in nature and was the result of unattended burning of incense. The fire was contained to the room of origin and did not spread to any other part of the structure. The room suffered minor fire and smoke damage estimated at approximately $7000.00 in loss. --PIO Cynthia Schuster

Narrative: 

Firefighters were called to a home on the 1900 block of East Washington Ave. for a fire reported in a third-floor bedroom.

Engine Company 3 entered with a water extinguisher in hand. As they proceeded upstairs, they encountered a light haze of smoke. They found active flames inside a bedroom and quickly extinguished the fire using their water can.

All occupants safely evacuated the building without injury. The cause of the fire is under investigation, and damage estimates are not yet available.
