Madison, WI
Narrative:

The Madison Fire Department is investigating a fire that occurred overnight at an abandoned property on the city’s east side.

Firefighters were called to 2011 Waterfall Way where a barn that had been converted into a residential property was fully involved with fire. Flames and smoke were seen from miles away as crews approached.

Due to its remote location in an undeveloped area, hydrant access was an issue for firefighters. Two fire engines and a ladder truck were utilized to relay water into the fire scene from the nearest hydrant. Madison Water Utility assisted with increasing water pressure to that hydrant so MFD could put forth an aggressive defensive fire attack. Initial knockdown was achieved at 1:51 a.m., about an hour and a half after arrival. Sun Prairie Fire has responded with a tender to assist with putting out any remaining hot spots as the MFD’s Fire Investigation Team continues to process the scene.

Although the barn had reportedly been converted to a residential property, there are no known permanent occupants residing on the property at this time.

This report will be updated as more information becomes available.
