Narrative: 

Paramedics responded to the 2700 block of S. Stoughton Road shortly after 11 p.m. Wednesday for a man who fell into a pit.

The pit was 6 feet by 8 feet in size, and approximately 6-7 feet deep. The person inside had serious injuries, but he was alert when Medic 5 made contact with him.

Engine 5 and Ladder 8 were called in to assist with extrication. Paramedics and firefighter/EMTs placed the man on a backboard, secured him to a stokes basket, and utilized a crane that was on scene to hoist him out of the pit. He was transported to UW Hospital.

There were no witnesses to the fall, and it’s believed the man fell the full 6-7 feet onto a concrete floor which had 1/8-inch pieces of metal pointing upward from the concrete.
