Arrival:

Address:

Narrative:

Memorial Library on the UW-Madison campus was evacuated briefly Monday night following an alarm activation.

Engine Company 1 responded and met with UWPD on scene. The alarm panel showed a smoke detector activation in the first-floor women’s bathroom.

Firefighters entered the bathroom and found the room had an "electrical burning smell." They narrowed the source down to one of the forced-air hand dryers, which was too hot to be touched with bare hands.

Engine 1 asked UWPD to call in an electrician, and the bathroom was closed to public use until the hand dryer could be repaired. UWPD remained on scene to wait for the electrician.
