Narrative:

Engine 12 was sent to a possible structure fire after a concerned neighbor reported hearing an alarm and smelling smoke in a nearby apartment. Firefighters could see a haze of white or gray smoke through a window. They forced entry and found that both fire and carbon monoxide alarms were sounding.

Using a thermal imaging camera, firefighters were able to locate the source of the problem: A lit electric stove burner that had ignited some paper and cardboard sitting next to it. Fire and smoke damage extended to a kitchenette, fridge, nearby microwave, countertops, and the cabinets above the stovetop. E12 crew sprayed down the cabinets and appliances with water to cool the charred areas, and they removed smoke from the unit.

None of the individuals associated with the apartment have knowledge of turning on the stove burner. It’s possible the nob had been bumped unintentionally.
