Nobody was home when fire caused damage to an apartment on Jenewein Road.

Firefighters were greeted by a building manager when they arrived to the building just before 9:30 p.m. Friday. The building manager advised Ladder Company 7 to go up to the second floor. That’s where the crew encountered a smoky hallway as they centered in on the apartment.

Upon entry, smoke was banked to about chest height. Ladder Company 7 located fire in a laundry room and promptly knocked it down with a water can extinguisher. Engine Company 7 assisted with ventilation once the fire was out.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
