Arrival:

Address:
Lake Monona
Madison, WI
Narrative:

Firefighters, paramedics, and the Madison Fire Department’s Lake Rescue Team were dispatched to the shores of Lake Monona, near the Yahara River, for a kayaker in distress.

From Riverside Drive, Engine 3 and Medic 3 could see a juvenile inside a kayak about 50 yards off-shore. Lake Rescue 1 was advised to launch from Law Park, and in the meantime Engine Company 3 made verbal contact with the juvenile.

With no life jacket and no paddles on board, firefighters instructed the juvenile to remain still so the kayak wouldn’t tip. Two civilian kayakers made their way to the juvenile and held his kayak steady until the Lake Rescue Team arrived to safely bring him to shore.
