Incident Type:
Cooking
Dispatch:
Sunday, June 21, 2015 - 1:45pm
Address:
Laramie Ct.
Madison, WI
Narrative:

A sounding smoke alarm and a 911 hang-up led Ladder 7 to a residence on Laramie Ct. Upon arrival, they learned that a grease fire had started in the kitchen. The resident removed a pot, which contained hot cooking oil, from the stovetop and attempted to bring the pot outside. In doing so, the hot oil spilled in areas of the home’s entryway. A neighbor came over to assist with home ventilation and called 911. Ladder 7’s crew assisted with getting the home’s fire security system reset, and they helped clean up the spilled oil before returning to service.

Grease Fire Safety Reminder:
Our instincts often tell us to use water to extinguish a grease fire, but doing so can actually spread the fire. The best approach is to smother grease fires with a cooking lid. Don’t hesitate to call 911 for Fire Department assistance in the event of a kitchen fire.
