Firefighters responded to Westgate Mall early Tuesday for a reported dumpster fire. Ladder Company 2 observed a column of smoke rising from the area as they approached from about a block and a half away.

The crew stretched a pre-connected hand line and shut down the power to the compactor/dumpster. The fire was knocked down with a combination of water and foam. There was no damage to nearby property.

Westgate Mall staff, as well as the company that owns the dumpster, were updated about the incident and assumed responsibility of cleanup and disposal of trash. It’s unknown how the fire ignited.
