Arrival:
Monday, May 10, 2021 - 4:43pm
Address:
7600 block Carrington Drive
Madison, WI
Narrative:

Firefighters responded to a dumpster fire that grew to a size large enough to damage nearby buildings and trees. Ladder Co. 2 could see black smoke from several blocks away as they responded to the 7600 block of Carrington Drive.

Upon arrival, Ladder 2 found a fully-involved fire in the dumpster corral area with flames extending 20-30 feet high, causing fire to spread into some cedar trees close by. Radiant heat from the fire also caused some damage to the siding of nearby apartment buildings.

Ladder Co. 2 began fire attack and eventually knocked down the fire. The crew went inside the apartment buildings and found alarms sounding, but there were no signs of fire, smoke, or heat indoors. Firefighters confirmed the buildings only suffered exterior heat damage. The fencing and trees adjacent to the dumpsters suffered major damage. Total damages are estimated to be around $5000.

The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.
