Narrative:

Nobody was injured or displaced following a cooking fire on Dwight Drive, but some damage did occur and was contained to the kitchen.

Ladder Company 7 and a full structure fire response was dispatched to the 4200 block of Dwight Drive when a pan of cooking oil was left unattended and ignited. The fire extended from the stovetop to the hood fan and into the cupboards above the stove.

The occupant used a dry chemical extinguisher to tamp down the fire, but when firefighters later entered the kitchen there was still fire in the cupboards and smoke throughout the floor. Ladder 7 put the rest of the fire out using the same fire extinguisher.

Firefighters checked the adjacent ceilings and attic to confirm the fire didn’t spread into void spaces surrounding the kitchen, and measures were taken to ensure a fire would not rekindle.
