Madison Fire Department units were dispatched to a structure fire at the 4500 block of Hamlet Place shortly after 9:30 AM, after a passerby called 911 and alerted the homeowner.

A plume of smoke could be seen for miles. Engine 10 arrived after five minutes of the 911 call and found the owner outside. Crews observed flames extending 10 – 15’ above the roofline from the rear of the structure. Smoke and flames were visible from the eaves and fire had vented through the roof.

Engine 10 and other MFD units initiated fire attack and knocked down the fire within fifteen minutes after arriving on scene, while other units conducted search and rescue, overhaul, and ventilation. There was significant fire damage to the rear of the structure and to attic and roof. The main floor sustained extensive smoke and water damage. The basement sustained water damage.

One adult and two children were not home at the time of the fire. Two dogs were in the home during the fire, but are safe.

The insurance company responded to assist the homeowner, and secured the structure.

No one was injured as a result of the fire.
