Address:
Jubilee Circle
Madison, WI
Narrative:

A fire that damaged two homes was traced to improperly discarded fireworks, according to Madison Fire Department investigators.

Engine Co.13 and other east side fire companies responded to Jubilee Circle at 10:08 p.m. on July 4 for reports of fire on the outside of a house. Upon arrival, the homeowner approached firefighters and reported everyone was out of the house.

The homeowner put out the majority of the fire with a garden hose. Engine Co. 13 knocked down the remaining exterior fire and soaked the attic area above the garage to ensure no further fire spread. Ladder Co. 8 and Engine Co. 5 assisted with overhaul.

Heavy smoke and hot spots lingered in the garage ceiling, and some light smoke was found inside the home. With smoke and carbon monoxide detected inside the home, firefighters used a positive pressure ventilation fan to clear the air. The family was not displaced, and nobody was injured.

Damage to the primary home is estimated at around $50,000. Heat from the fire did cause some minor damage to the siding of the house next door.
