Narrative: 

City of Madison Firefighters were dispatched to a structure fire on Cimarron Trail on Saturday evening, shortly after 6:00 pm. A resident called 911 to report a fire on the stove.

Occupants of the four unit apartment were evacuating.as crews from Fire Station #7 arrived on scene, Apartment residents who were outside, were pointing to the second floor where fire crews noticed smoke coming from a sliding glass door.

As crews made entry into the apartment, black smoke was banked down to the floor. The fire was located on top of the stove and was extinguished using a water can. Firefighters checked for extension in the walls and cabinets.

It was found that the occupant was cooking with oil and left the kitchen to serve food in another room. Upon returning to the kitchen, the occupant noticed the fire on top of the stove and told family members to evacuate the building. The occupant then tried to smother the fire using a rug.

Damage was confined to the apartment where the fire occurred. Estimate damage $5,000.00.

No injuries were reported.
