Friday, May 19, 2017 - 9:18am
Address:
S. Breese Terrace
Madison, WI 53713
Narrative:

Three buildings were evacuated briefly Friday following a natural gas leak, but there were no resulting injuries or illnesses.

The Madison Fire Department was called to South Breese Terrace, near Monroe Street, after a natural gas main was damaged by construction equipment during excavation.

Madison Police shut down westbound Monroe Street as Ladder Company 2 evacuated three buildings directly across from the area of the damaged gas line. An additional engine company was called in to assist with monitoring the atmosphere at one of the nearby buildings.

MGE arrived on scene and quickly had the leak under control. They assessed surrounding buildings for evidence of natural gas and released firefighters from the scene once the gas leak was mitigated. All nearby occupants were able to return.
