Narrative:

The Madison Fire Department was called to an apartment complex on the 6800 block of Tottenham Road at 9:51 p.m. for a fire inside one of the garages.

Upon their arrival, Engine Co. 7, Ladder Co. 7, and Medic 2 observed heavy black smoke coming from the garage. As Ladder 7 began initial fire attack, other firefighters performed search and rescue. Engine Co. 7 soon took over fire attack so Ladder Co. 7 could focus on ventilation.

The fire was knocked down by 10:12 p.m., and crews confirmed everybody had safely evacuated the unit. The fire was confined to the garage where it began but smoke extended into the adjacent apartment, displacing a family of four. Nobody was injured.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
