Arrival:

Address:
1200 block W. Dayton Street
Madison, WI 53706
Narrative:

Engine Company 4 was dispatched to Weeks Hall on the UW-Madison campus for a chemical spill. A liter of Anisole was spilled on the second floor of the building near a freight elevator and was reported to be dripping down the elevator shaft.

Firefighters activated the fire alarm to prompt an evacuation and also made contact with the MFD’s Hazardous Incident Team (HIT) for more information about the chemical. The HIT advised Engine 4 to ventilate the second floor, and the bottom of the elevator shaft, until air monitors no longer detected the chemical and until the smell of it dissipated. Engine 4 did so, and the property was turned back over to university officials.

There were no injuries and no need for EMS.
