Firefighters Respond to Fire In Underground Parking Area

On Tuesday, February 8th shortly after 10:00 am, Engine 1 responded to a fire alarm on the 300 block of W. Dayton Street, next door to Fire Station #1.
As the bay doors were opening, firefighters could smell smoke. Upon investigation, the crew found smoke coming from the parking garage and called for a full fire response.
Firefighters headed to a maintenance room on the lower level parking garage of the Capitol Center Court Apartments, where they located the fire. Crews pulled a 300-foot hose line and extinguish the flames.
The fire did not extend to the upper floors.
Ladder 1 and Ladder 6 crews ventilated the fire room and underground parking area.
Occupants were allowed back into the 15-story, 150 unit apartment building.
No injuries to Firefighters or civilians were reported.
Estimate damage is $20,000 - $30,000.
MG&E also assisted at the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
