Narrative:

Firefighters were called to an east side apartment building early Saturday morning after an occupant woke up to the smell of smoke.

All occupants safely evacuated the building as Engine Company 3 and other crews responded. Fire was found on an exterior wooden deck on the second floor. Firefighters put out the fire and checked the interior to see if the fire had spread inside. The investigation confirmed the fire remained confined to the building’s exterior.

The occupant told firefighters he woke up to find moderate smoke in his apartment. As he called 911 and left the building, he woke up the downstairs neighbors and told them to get out of the building.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Nobody was injured or displaced.
