Assist Citizen
Dispatch:
Sunday, May 1, 2016 - 12:53pm
Arrival:
Sunday, May 1, 2016 - 12:57pm
Address:
2400 block Regent Street
Madison, WI
Narrative:

Firefighters were called to Regent Street after a child was accidentally locked inside a vehicle there on Sunday.

The two-year-old was doing fine and in no distress when Engine 4 arrived just before 1:00 p.m.

Firefighters popped the door open just enough to get a rod inside, hoping to grab the door handle.

After that failed to do the trick, they used the rod to grab the car keys and hand them to the child. The child did what kids sometimes do— and what firefighters hoped the child would do: Took the key fob and began to push its buttons.

“Wammo!” writes the fire lieutenant who was at the scene. “The doors opened!”

With everyone doing fine, firefighters left at 1:02 p.m. to let the family resume their activities.
