Address:
700 block Fairmont Avenue
Madison, WI
Narrative:

An eastside household was attempting to broil bacon when their food caught fire inside the oven Thursday afternoon. The flames prompted the family to call 911, summoning Engine Co. 8 and other east side crews.

Both occupants were outside and uninjured when firefighters arrived. They explained there had been a fire in the oven but they believed it was out now. One person threw wet towels on the burning food, which snuffed out the flames, but the towels were still smoking when firefighters took a look inside the kitchen.

The towels and bacon were taken outside, and the kitchen was checked for fire extension. No damage was found, and the home was ventilated to clear out the remaining smoke.
