Narrative:

Residents at The Oaks are thankful that no one was hurt and the damage was minimal after a single fire sprinkler extinguished a small accidental electrical fire.

Engine 9 was dispatched for a fire alarm sounding at The Oaks around 5:45 pm. When they arrived at the 6200 block of Mineral Point Road, the crew made contact with building staff and stated they had smoke in an apartment and water was coming out from under the door. The Lieutenant contacted dispatch and asked for a full fire response.

Engine 9’s crew went to the third floor to investigate, where they noticed light smoke in the hallway. Firefighters entered the apartment where a sprinkler was activated. Firefighters searched the apartment, but no occupants were located. Crews ventilated the apartment and hallways while another crew shut down the sprinkler system to prevent further water damage.

Two people were displaced as a result of the fire and will be staying with family members. All other occupants of the building were allowed to return to their units.

Damage estimated at $10,000.
