Arrival:
Thursday, March 10, 2022 - 12:06pm
Address:
6000 block Driscoll Drive
Madison, WI
Narrative:

An east side resident is safe and uninjured thanks to an automatic fire sprinkler, which detected fire igniting in an attached garage.

Firefighters responded to the 6000 block of Driscoll Drive to investigate a fire alarm activation. Upon arrival, Engine Co. 13 noticed water leaking out of a residential garage. Fire alarms were audible. An occupant greeted firefighters at the front door. He explained he was awakened by the fire alarm and could smell smoke. He searched the apartment for the source but found nothing. He opened the door to the garage and found the garage fully charged with smoke.

Engine Co. 13 entered the garage and noted a sprinkler head flowing water upon an extinguished bag of trash. Firefighters found a bucket of cigarette butts near the trash bag. The automatic fire sprinkler successfully kept the fire and its damage contained to the bag of trash and a nearby bicycle. Firefighters shut down the sprinkler, ventilated the garage and apartment, and reset the fire alarm. The occupant was not displaced.
