Narrative: 

On 01/09/20 at 3:05 pm, Madison Fire Department crews responded to the 800 block of E Johnson St for a reported structure fire. Citizen callers reported the building was a three story commercial building that has apartments on the 2nd and 3rd floors. Several callers reported flames and smoke visible from a window on the 2nd story that faces E Johnson St.

When crews arrived on scene they began fire suppression and search activities. The fire was contained to the apartment of fire origin and was quickly extinguished. Crews performed overhaul activities and checked for fire extension.

Crews reported working smoke alarms were sounding upon their arrival. No injuries were reported.

There are two businesses on the first floor. One choose to remain open, while the other decided to close for the evening.

The three residents that were displaced are staying with family/friends. The cause of the fire is under investigation and no damage estimate is available.
