Narrative:

Fifteen people are displaced from their homes following a fire caused by unattended cooking.

Firefighters were sent to 2215 Carling Drive at 5:44 Thursday evening after multiple 911 callers reported smoke coming from the building. Engine Company 7 arrived to find smoke along the eaves of the building and fire in the kitchen of a second-story unit. Firefighters confirmed all occupants safely evacuated the building, and nobody was injured.

Engine 7 quickly brought the fire under control. L2 proceeded to the roof to prepare to ventilate due to the large volume of smoke showing at the eaves and the ridge. Crews inside the building confirmed that fire had not extended to the attic, which allowed the roof to remain intact.

A total of eight apartment units in the building are uninhabitable. The American Red Cross assisted those in need of a place to stay. Damage estimates are not yet available.
