This fire resulted in damages worth approximately $120,000. The cause of the fire is undetermined. Investigators could not rule out discarded smoking materials as a possible ignition source, nor the possibility of mechanical issues with the vehicle parked in the driveway. --PIO Cynthia Schuster

Narrative: 

Madison Fire Department crews responded at 5:51 pm to a structure fire in the 100 block of S Marquette St. A passerby called 911 and reported a house was on fire and flames could be seen coming out of the windows of the residence. Initial reports also indicated a vehicle in the driveway at the residence was also on fire.

First in crews aggressively attacked the fire upon arrival and protected the adjacent building from fire spread.  First in Ladder company conducted Search and Rescue on the basement, first and second floors, finding all clear.

Fire Attack was switched over to an interior attack to extinguish fire in the interior and attic spaces. Simultaneously the fire in the vehicle parked at the residence was also extinguished by crews outside the residence. Crews conducted overhaul operations.

No one was at home at the time of the incident. Two adults and one child are displaced and will be staying with family. The cause of the fire is under investigation and no damage estimates are available.
