Arrival:
Friday, August 20, 2021 - 9:27am
Address:
300 block Crocus Circle
Madison, WI
Narrative:

An occupant on Crocus Circle dialed 911 upon finding smoke in her living room with no apparent source. Engine Co. 4 and other MFD crews responded to investigate. There was notable smoke at the ceiling but its origins were unknown. There were no obvious heat signatures when the room was surveyed with a thermal imaging camera.

Tracking the thickness of the smoke, firefighters pinpointed the area they believed the smoke to be coming from. Upon opening the wall in this area they discovered burned insulation, burned wiring, and some burning embers. Firefighters located the main electrical breaker to that area and shut it off so they could apply water to the burning materials. Ladder Co. 6 situated a fan inside to clear the home of smoke. MGE responded to shut down utilities.

The occupant was advised to have an electrician examine the wiring and make repairs. Due to the temporary lack of utilities, the occupant was displaced. The American Red Cross is providing assistance.
