Narrative:

The Madison Fire Department is investigating a fire discovered at a vacant business property on the northeast side. Multiple 911 callers alerted authorities to black smoke coming from 1902 Bartillon Drive.

Firefighters arrived on location minutes later to find flames showing with fire on the roof. Crews began a defensive fire attack with multiple lines focused on the roof and attic space. Following initial knockdown of the fire, firefighters searched the building and confirmed nobody was trapped inside.

One witness had approached the building and peered inside to check for victims just prior to MFD’s arrival. He was evaluated by paramedics for possible injuries and released with no need for EMS. No firefighters were injured during the incident.

The MFD’s Fire Investigation Team remains on scene to investigate the cause.
