Fire Damages Eastside Home, Displaces Residents

Investigators discovered multiple potential ignition sources in the area of the fire's origin. Improperly discarded smoking materials and a possible electrical fault were identified as potential causes; however, the exact cause is undetermined. The fire caused an estimated $100,000 in damage.

Fire caused significant damage to a home on Madison’s east side late this morning.
The Madison Fire Department was dispatched at 10:57 a.m. to the 1700 block of Manley Street after reports of the house on fire. Medic 10 and Engine 10 were first arriving units to the scene and reported to incoming crews that there was heavy fire and smoke showing from the back of the residence.
Engine Co. 8, Engine Co.10, Engine Co.5 all assisted with interior and exterior fire attack, knocking the fire down at 11:07 a.m. Firefighters rescued a cat from the basement of the home. Ladder Co.1 vented the roof and Ladder Co.8 performed overhaul.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. No injuries were reported, and all pets in the residence were accounted for.
