The driver of a waste collection truck was forced to pull over along eastbound U.S. Highway 12 after some of the truck’s contents fell behind the cab, landing on hot engine and exhaust components and catching fire. The driver used an extinguisher to knock down the fire, and Engine Company 5 responded to ensure the fire would not rekindle. Firefighters doused the hot components with water. Estimated loss for fire-related damage to the vehicle is approximately $200.
